Ideal for: A Fraser Valley evening of dinner and a little gaming.
Think twice if: You need a pool or a theatre — neither is here.

The pitch

Gateway Casinos launched Cascades in Langley City in May 2005; the beds are next door at the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Centre, whose 77 rooms were refreshed in 2018. Want a balcony? Book the Executive Suite. A wet bar? The Hospitality Suite. Otherwise it's Coast King or Coast Two Queens, a sofa-bed corner Queen, or the accessible Queen, which has a roll-in shower.

Playing

80,000 sq ft, 1,000-plus slots, open 24 hours, with poker, bingo, blackjack and roulette. Shows are a thing of the past: the 420-seat Summit Theatre shut in 2018 and became the bingo hall.

Eating

ATLAS steak + fish is Gateway's top restaurant brand. Match Eatery & Public House brings live music and DJs; The Breakfast Room feeds hotel guests; the convention ballroom hosts a weekly Sunday brunch buffet from 11 am. Glacier Bar keeps 11 am–2 am hours.

Logistics

The Coast hotel is upfront that there's no swimming pool; its gym, though, never closes. Rooms are ready at three and due back at noon, and the car park is free. Pets need approval in advance and cost $25 a night (one) or $40 (two). By road, Abbotsford's airport is roughly half an hour away and YVR roughly an hour; nearer still are Fort Langley and the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

Our take

A reliable neighbourhood casino with a perfectly decent small hotel. It doesn't try to compete with the top-ten resorts, so don't expect it to.
