Canada's casino age, province by province
Last updated · facts verified
Canada doesn't have one casino age — each province picks its own. It's 18 in Québec, Manitoba and Alberta, and 19 in New Brunswick, British Columbia and Ontario. The limit covers the gaming floor; some resorts extend it to bars, venues or even the whole property. Check these points before you book.

ID to pack
Bring government-issued photo ID to any casino. B.C. has asked every visitor for it since June 2023, matching it against the restricted-entry list. Québec staff may ask for it if you seem under 25. Some venues go further: Great Blue Heron in Ontario lists an original, valid government photo ID and a second photo ID as entry requirements.
Resorts with their own rules
- Hard Rock Ottawa: 19+ across the entire property, including hotel and restaurants.
- Great Canadian Toronto and Casino New Brunswick: the booker must be 19+; kids may stay but keep out of 19+ areas.
- River Rock: you can't check in under 19.
- River Cree: minors with an adult may use all non-gaming areas (rule in force since 29 July 2024).
- Fallsview: children welcome, but no babes in arms or strollers on the gaming floor.
Self-exclusion, briefly
Each province offers voluntary self-exclusion: you choose a period, and its casinos refuse you entry for that long. Certain programmes can't be cut short once signed. Thinking about it? Call your province's helpline from the table above — no charge, fully confidential.
