Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review
Last updated · facts verified
The operator's boast is simple — more slot machines to choose from than anywhere in Canada. Around them, beside Woodbine Racetrack since 2023: a 400-room hotel, a theatre holding up to 5,000, sauna and steam room by the pool, a garage where parking costs nothing and a complimentary shuttle from Pearson. It's the Toronto area's newest big casino resort.
Ideal for: Flying in, big concerts, and slot fans who want the deepest floor in the country.
Think twice if: You want a pretty outlook (it's racetrack or city edge) or more than 388 sq ft in a standard room.
The pitch
Casino Woodbine is gone; in its place, since 2023, stands Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto. The casino's first phase opened on 20 June and The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on 1 August. Location: Etobicoke, beside Woodbine Racetrack, a few minutes from Pearson. Scale is the theme — the operator claims Canada's largest selection of slot machines.
Sleeping
All 400 rooms and suites are brand new. The four standard types (Premium King, Racetrack King, Premium Two Queen, Racetrack Two Queen) are 388 sq ft apiece; "Racetrack" means a track-side window, and Destination Toronto says close to half the hotel gets one. Accessible rooms have grab bars and 60-inch roll-in showers. For space, look at the Corner Suite (king plus queen sofa bed) or the 2-Bedroom Suite, which sleeps six; both include a fridge and a microwave. Blackout curtains, robes, NEST bath products, a mini fridge and a coffee maker are standard.
Reservations must be made by someone 19 or older; kids can stay in the room but not wander into 19+ areas. Rooms open at four, and checkout is eleven.
Playing
When the doors opened in 2023, Global News put the floor at 145 table games and 4,800 slot machines. The high-limit room is a casino in itself, with over 25 live tables, more than 210 slots and 15 electronic terminals offering multi-game blackjack and poker. Nothing closes — hotel and casino both run 24/7 — and anyone 19+ can sign up to Great Canadian Rewards free.
Shows and racing
The Theatre takes up to 5,000 for a concert and 1,500-plus for a gala; tickets go through Ticketmaster only. At Woodbine next door, race days are usually free to watch, parking included, with the fall meet's race days listed through 29 November 2026.
Eating and drinking
Copperhorn — steakhouse, fine dining, right on the gaming floor. Casual — a gastropub with a deep local craft-beer list. Asian — Chopsticks Noodlehouse, and Lobster Legend Noodle Bar for Teochew and Western plates. Pizza — Pizzaiolo. Quick bites — a Food Hall with Mary Brown's Express, Tim Hortons and Noodlebox. Drinks — Northern Lights Bar (19+) or the all-ages Lobby Bar Grab & Go.
Unwinding
Pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and gym are all listed. When it's busy, expect the front desk to hand out pool time slots.
Getting there
The free Pearson shuttle operates 6 am to noon and 3 to 9 pm, collecting at Terminal 1 arrivals (post F3) and Terminal 3 (near gates B and G). The enclosed garage has 3,800 spaces and self-parking is free; valet is roughly $20 Monday–Thursday, $30 Friday–Sunday. Pets: two cats or dogs under 50 lbs, $49 per night plus a single $49 cleaning fee.
Heads-up: the lockout
Great Canadian locked out around 100 security officers from Unifor Local 1090 on 23 July 2026, and picketers have been outside the resort since. The operator's notice of 2 October 2026 says hotel and casino are open 24/7 as usual, restaurant hours are unchanged, and cars get through the picket line at least once every three minutes. Look up the current situation before you set off.
Our take
Toronto's best bet when you're arriving by plane, going to a show, or after the biggest slot floor in one building. The rooms are fresh and practical, not roomy — pay up for a Corner Suite if space is the priority.
